Spot shrimp (a.k.a. Spot prawns) are the largest of Alaska’s local shrimp and can live from seven to eleven years. Spot prawns are opportunistic bottom feeders that migrate seasonally from deep to shallow waters and are found from Southern California to Alaska’s Aleutian Islands. In Alaska, spot prawns are harvested commercially using pots, which help reduce potential bycatch and prevent habitat degradation. Their sweet taste makes spot prawns incredibly desirable in the kitchen and their large size makes them especially good for grilling or steaming and serving whole.
